This how-to guides you through understanding and configuring Distribution Groups using CoreView.

What are Distribution Groups?

Distribution Groups in Microsoft 365 send email notifications to a specific set of recipients. A Distribution Group can be configured to receive emails from internal senders and, if enabled, from external senders. These groups are effective for targeted communication, such as sending messages to “Building A Employees” or the “Contoso Team”.

Key considerations:

For more information, see “Compare types of groups in Microsoft 365 – section ‘Distribution groups'” in Microsoft documentation.

How to create Distribution Groups using CoreView

  1. Under “Actions”, click on “Management actions” and select “Distribution group”. Then choose “Create distribution group”.
  1. Follow the “Create distribution group” wizard.

Please note that the “Alias” field should not contain any spaces.

  1. Specify membership and, if needed, restrict who can send messages to the group.

With CoreView, you can also limit who can send messages to the group. Only specified senders will have the ability to send to the group, and emails sent by anyone else will be rejected.

  1. Submit the form to complete the creation process.
