What are number pools?
A number pool is a collection of phone numbers that administrators can allocate and manage. Number pools support assigning numbers to users or operators based on predefined criteria. Pools can also be used to group numbers into sets for tracking and assignment.
Number pools can be managed in two ways: dynamically or by reserving numbers for a specific pool.
Reserved numbers
Reserved numbers are phone numbers that are not currently assigned to any pool. These numbers remain outside of other pools until they are allocated to a number pool. Reserved numbers can be set aside for future assignments (for example, onboarding new operators or filling specific roles).
Reserved numbers must be added to pools manually. If new numbers are purchased that meet the criteria you use for a reserved pool, they are not added automatically.
Dynamic numbers
Dynamic numbers are assigned and managed based on conditions set by administrators. Once a condition is defined for a number pool, all existing numbers that match the condition, as well as any numbers purchased in the future that match the same condition, are automatically added to the pool.
For example, a pool condition can be based on region, area code, or organizational role. Numbers that match the condition are included automatically as inventory changes.
Administrators can reserve specific existing numbers while also applying a dynamic condition for future number purchases.
Important note
The columns “Number pool name” and “Number pool ID” will not be populated in the “Phone numbers” report for dynamic numbers. This is because dynamic numbers do not have a one-to-one relationship with a single pool. A dynamic number can match the conditions of multiple pools and does not exclusively belong to one pool.
